  9. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Automatic acoustics-management (AAM)</span><br>
  10. Contemporary modern hard disks with IDE-interface have a so-called
  11. automatic acoustics-management.<br>
  12. As the name already says, it is a question at that of the troublesome
  13. noise topic.<br>
  14. With this procedure the hard disk heads are quickened in a smaller way
  15. and slowed down in a smaller way. Result: The hard disk heads do less
  16. noise clearly in the case of hard disk grips. This noise is to be heard
  17. as a rattle. The noise of the spindle motor which drives the hard disk
  18. remains prospective on the other hand.<br>
  19. <br>
  20. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Advantage</span><br>
  21. Less noise at hard disk grips. It is also to be said, however, in this
  22. case that modern hard disks do not do a lot of noise anymore anyhow.<br>
  23. <br>
  24. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Disadvantage</span><br>
  25. The access time goes up through that. This means, the drive needs
  26. something more time in order to position the hard disk heads over the
  27. necessary track. The time that is needed in order to transfer the data
  28. of the hard disk into the computer remains in this case unchanged.<br>
  29. <br>
  30. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Setup and remove</span><br>
  31. There is not a setup program for this program - is not also at all
  32. necessary. Simply copy the file SilentDrive.exe into an arbitrary
  33. folder of your choice. Since otherwise SilentDrive does not leave
  34. behind any insertions in the registration database of Windows, a simple
  35. deletion of the program file suffices for the deinstallation.<br>
  36. <br>
  37. <span style="font-weight: bold;">System requirements</span><br>
  38. SilientDrive runs only on <span style="color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">Windows
  39. 2000</span> and<span style="color: rgb(153, 0, 0);"> Windows XP</span>.<br>
  40. <br>
  41. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Short operating manual</span><br>
  42. During the start of the program SilentDrive analyzes the available IDE
  43. hard disks (or also ATA hard disk) and matches found hard disks in the
  44. list. You can select the wanted hard disk from this list. It is
  45. indicated in this case whether the hard disk supports
  46. acoustics-management. Also whether the drive just on <span
  47.  class="trans">quiet</span> or on aloud
  48. is prepared.<br>
  49. According to stopped mode you can prepare now the drive <span
  50.  class="trans">quiet</span> or loud
  51. (fast).<br>
  52. The ATA- standard only dictates that the two modes <span class="trans">quiet</span>ly
  53. and aloud
  54. must be supported. It is therefore normal if a hard disk does not show
  55. an effect possibly at all <span class="trans">adjustments</span>.<br>
  56. So that you can hear the difference, you press the button <span
  57.  style="font-style: italic;">Seek-Test</span>. In
  58. this case the hard disk heads are moved randomly over the hard disk. In
  59. the case of the stopped mode <span class="trans"
  60.  style="font-style: italic;">quiet</span><span
  61.  style="font-style: italic;">ly and
  62. slowly</span> you might hardly hear
  63. something.<br>
  64. <br>
  65. The hard disk stores the <span class="trans">adjustments</span> that
  66. you carry out in an intern way
  67. and are maintained therefore also, when you switch off the computer.<br>
  68. <br>
  69. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Options</span><br>
  70. BIOS of some computers seems to put back the settings by the next start
  71. again.<br>
  72. In this case SilentDrive can be called with options. Simply puts a link
  73. in the autostart-folder.<br>

  76. SilentDrive -d<drive> -m<mode><br>
  77. <br>
  78. Drive: 0. 3, the first drive is 0. Without information the first drive
  79. is used.<br>
  80. Mode: o - off, m - medium, q - quiet<br>

  82. Examples:<br>
  83. SlilentDrive -d1 -mq        puts the second drive
  84. on the mode quietly.<br>
  85. SlilentDrive -mo              turned
  86. off the AAM of the first drive.<br>
